Tsavo West National Park is one of Kenya’s most beautiful and diverse safari destinations, known for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, natural springs, and rich wildlife. Located in southeastern Kenya, the park forms part of the vast Tsavo Conservation Area, which includes the neighboring Tsavo East National Park.
Compared to Tsavo East, Tsavo West features more varied terrain with rolling hills, lava flows, lush springs, and rocky outcrops, making it a spectacular destination for travelers seeking scenic safari experiences.

Tsavo West National Park is located in southeastern Kenya, within the coastal region of the country.
• Approximately 270 km (168 miles) from Nairobi via the Nairobi–Mombasa highway (A109)
• Separated from Tsavo East National Park by the A109 road and the Uganda Railway line
• Easily accessible from Nairobi, Mombasa, and the Kenyan coast
Because of its location, Tsavo West is a popular stop for travelers combining Kenya beach holidays with safari adventures.
Tsavo has a long and fascinating history dating back thousands of years. Archaeological discoveries suggest that the region was inhabited during the Stone Age and later became part of ancient trade routes linking the Kenyan coast with inland Africa.
During the late 1800s, the construction of the Uganda Railway passed through the Tsavo region. This period became famous because of the legendary “Man-Eaters of Tsavo”, two lions that reportedly attacked railway workers during construction.
In 1963, the management of the park was taken over by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), which continues to oversee conservation and tourism activities in the park today.
Tsavo West National Park covers approximately 9,065 square kilometers (about 3,000 square miles).
Together with Tsavo East National Park, it forms one of the largest protected wildlife ecosystems in Africa.
Tsavo West offers incredible wildlife viewing in a spectacular natural setting.
